Moose InformationThe moose (Alces alces) is the largest member of the deer family. This animal can reach 6.5 ft at the shoulder and weigh up to 1,500 lbs. Moose can be found in northern North America, and northern Eurasia. Their fur can vary in color from almost black to very light brown. Only mature bull moose have antlers. The antlers can stretch 4 to 5 feet across. Moose grow new antlers every year. The name "moose" comes from the Algonquin Indian term and means "twig eater".
